As we enter a new year, what will your priorities be? Is this the year you trade in your old car for a new one or plan the European trip? How about putting a down payment on that summer cabin you've been dreaming about for years? As you are making your list, consider this: our nation faces a health crisis plagued with diabetes, obesity, heart disease, Alzheimer's and arthritis, to name a few. These diseases are preventable. The key to prevention lies in the choices you make. What are you choosing to feed your body? How are you staying active and moving? Without health, let's face it, nothing else matters. Life's enjoyment is greatly diminished when your health is compromised. Yet, it's rarely the first priority.
Being a part of the healthcare field years ago, I realized that western medicine's emphasis was not on preventive care or even curing the health problem. Instead the patient's symptoms were treated verses finding a solution to the problem that was creating the symptoms. In addition, there was virtually no time spent educating the patient in preventing further damage.
It was then I realized I had to be very proactive with my health, starting with doing research, seeking out alternative practitioners, e,g, Dr. Richard Hruby and Ned Holle, LAc., as well as following the instruction of a knowledgeable teacher, Ron Morris, for diet and exercise. (Although I had been very active all my life, I ate a lot of sugar and simple carbs.) In making different choices, I have prevented two different surgeries and have interrupted what would have been a life threatening illness, diabetes. Inspired by how my own changes that occurred simple by making different choices I went on to receive my certification as a IIN Health Coach, inspiring and guiding others on their own path to health and wellness.
Health is really not a luxury. It is a necessity. Our choices need to reflect that in order to live a truly full and happy life. So, instead of the new boat, how about a new body? One that is nourished, strong and flexible.
