Productivity Tip #1: Do take breaks. Lots of them. Breaks can do wonders for creativity, giving us a chance to let our blood flow and to give our body some movement. The type of break you give yourself is important. For instance, if working at the computer all day, make sure you take breaks that involve leaving the computer!
Productivity Tip #2: Do leave room for spontaneity. When we leave unscheduled time in our day, we allow for a few things. First of all, if you are the type of person who tends to underestimate the length of a project, always build in more time for this. Second of all, we want to leave room to take breaks and have some fun. Play is a natural part of the creative and productive process. All great geniuses surely leave time for play in their day!
Productivity Tip #3: Make a schedule! If you are super organized, you probably already do this. It can be in a notebook or planner or in an app on your phone. It doesn't really matter what your template is, just as long as you write things down. This is such a powerful step - it holds us accountable and frees up space in the mind.
Productivity Tip #4: Be present. If your mind is constantly wandering throughout the day, you'll end up missing a lot of important information. Stop trying to do 10 things at once. The trick is to stay completely focused on what you are doing right now. Go ahead and bounce from project to project if you have to, but keep your attention always on what you are doing now.
Productivity Tip #5: Feed yourself. Meaning feed your needs. Need to use the bathroom? Go. Hungry? Eat. Sick? Go home. You get the point. When we listen, we end up getting more done. If we try to muddle through the day, ignoring our needs, guess what? Our enjoyment is stifled, we put our system at risk for illness or impede the healing process, and our work is seriously compromised.
Productivity Tip #6: Ask for help. This has been a difficult one for me. I think its hard for most people to ask for help. Well, let me tell you that all the thoughts we might have about this, we can just kiss goodbye because its useless to feel bad about asking for help. Doing this will take a huge weight off your shoulders. Its really just another way of taking care of yourself. With practice, this gets much easier. It also helps to realize that it is ridiculous to expect that you can go through life and not rely on anyone else. Not to mention, it is human nature to help one another. I know, personally, I receive great joy from helping others.
I hope you will find that some of these tips are beneficial for you. They sure made a world of difference for me.
